Living today; stress is a normal part of modern life and you will be exposed to some sort of stress every day, whether it’s waking up to an alarm when your tired or having to deal with too much work and other responsibilities, all can become too much!

Sometimes stress can be so overwhelming, it feels like it is taking over your life. Thankfully, the body has an amazing, protective stress response system to help you cope.

The stress response was historically designed to kick in to save your life; nowadays, your stress response is being activated every day rather than just when you encounter a hungry Sabre Tooth Tiger!  However, this ongoing activation by your nervous system can lead to symptoms of stress and mood disorders that are becoming increasingly common.

It also has a huge effect physically on our body and can show the tell-tale signs with, weakened immune systems, skin breakouts or displaying itself as a dreaded cold sore on your lips.

Recognizing the Signs and Symptoms of Stress

Depending on the type of stress and how long you have been experiencing it, you may be familiar with some of these signs and symptoms that can occur in acute (short-term) stress or with ongoing stress.

Acute Stress

*Muscle tension *Increased heart rate *Sweating *Energy fluctuations *Alertness *Sleep disturbances *Feeling jumpy or on edge *Restless legs in bed *Anxious and nervous.

Ongoing Stress

*Adrenal Fatigue *Sleep disturbances *Worrying *Sadness and crying without reason *Irritability *Poor concentration *Weight loss or gain *unmotivated, *Exhausted and having no drive.

Q/ Who are you?

I Am One Who is struggling to keep my head above water and I just manage to do so.

I Am One Who knows that if I allow myself, it would be easy to give up and drown which is a frightening thought and one I don’t wish to experience. 

I Am One Who normally is able to cope with what life has thrown at me, not taking it on board but carrying on without any drama’s or consequences, I just do this without thinking, but now I find that I’m out of my depth and struggling to stay on top of things.

Q/ What is your Gift or Message for me?

Although I may appear to be ok, I’m really not Elaine. I want you to be aware of how I’m feeling and that this is me crying out for some help or acknowledgement from someone, anyone and especially from you. It is time for you to ask for help and lose that attitude that you can cope and don’t need support when clearly you do!
